By TedCharles

Is excessive sweating affecting your life?

If you feel that you are sweating too much, there are dozens of simple, inexpensive, natural ways to stop excessive sweating and actually improve the smell of your body odor, all free and natural. That's right. No need going for expensive sweating treatments.

Are you one of those people who can’t stay dry? Do you feel embarrassed because of sopping wet armpits and stained under-shirts? Unless you’re deep in the pleasures of hot wild passion, or doing intense physical exercises or you’re on the brink of winning a marathon, excessive sweating is nothing to go raving about. Just think of how awkward if feels when that simple handshake at a formal business meeting gets all too clammy. Nothing could be more nightmarish than when you are in a crowded elevator. If that isn’t bad enough, how about turning down dates, dances and parties, living in constant fear wondering whether you smell bad or not. Excessive body sweating may lead to low self-esteem and confidence. To make matters worse, out of self-pity and frustration victims tend to shy away from social events to avoid embarrassment. Sometimes it gets so depressing when people think of you as not hygienic or healthy when it’s no fault of your own.

This condition is referred to as Hyperhidrosis. It affects about 1% of all population and mainly targets the palms or soles of the feet. It occurs when the Sympathetic Nervous System gets overactive and creates more sweat than needed.

If you think it’s a serious problem, it would be best to see a doctor. It gets even more confusing because the market is flooded with so many fake remedies and antiperspirants. Learn how to stop excessive body sweating, naturally with these useful tips. You can save yourself all this trouble with these simple, natural, free home treatments to prevent sweating:

1. Drink a lot of water – hydration keeps body temperatures low and therefore less sweat will be produced. Water is vital to life. It effectively flushes out excess minerals and pushes out all toxins and waste products. The experts recommend six to eight glasses of water everyday.

2. Stay Calm – stress and nervousness instantly triggers the sweat glands.

3. Cut down your caffeine intake – caffeine tends to cause anxiety which in return triggers the body to excessive sweating.

4. Acupuncture – this simple ancient technique works like gangbusters. It simply targets certain body parts to balance energy and also relax the brain by controlling the hypothalamus which goes down to reduce sweat.

5. Yoga – one of the best natural ways to control excessive sweating. This works through meditation, calming down the nerves and subsequently lessening sweat production. Since Yoga teaches proper breathing, it works well especially when one is stressed or uneasy.

6. Avoid using deodorant or soap – this may come as a surprise but unknown to most people, the effects of deodorants or soaps not compatible with your body will do you more harm than good. They cause more bacteria to build up on the skin, which end up setting foul odor. That’s why it’s important to choose a deodorant or soap that suits your body.

7. Take a cold shower – Ok, you won’t like this. In spite of the uncomfortable effects of a cold shower, it surely works wonders. While you are at it, try using an antibacterial soap to ensure the body is clean and odor-free.

8. Avoid taking hot baths – while baths may be useful in eliminating toxins through increased body temperature, problems of excessive sweating outweigh their benefits.

9. Drink tomato juice – To be honest, I love this and I know it helps. The extra vitamins and nutrients come in mighty handy.

10. Avoid Hot drinks – when it comes to excessive sweating, these are your worst enemies, and that includes hot coffee too. Imagine the effect they give if you are just about to go for an important meeting or make a presentation. So why not try going for juice, lemonade or iced-beverages to regulate your temperature.

11. Drink sage tea – Taking these herbs two to four times a day keeps the body functioning well as well regulating sweat production.

12. Boil tea bags then soak your hands and feet in them! – A useful but rather questionable home made remedy to control excessive armpit sweating.

13. Rub the armpits with wool pads soaked in a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice

14. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs – An absolute no-brainer. These chemicals make it harder for the body to control sweating because they cause a delay in blood circulation.

15. Avoid sugary, spicy and chemically-processed foods – You are what you eat. Spicy foods may be delightful, tasty and healthy, but they make your body sweat more frequently in short time periods. Large intake of chemical toxins will aggravate sweating. The same goes for high fructose syrup used by some manufactures to sweeten food. It gets even worse especially for overweight people. Any of those instant, pre-made, packaged, frozen, greasy, ready-to-eat and fast foods are an absolute no no.

16. Eat the “right” foods – Fewer complex B vitamins in your body means it cannot allow for an efficient absorption of nutrients and proper break down of toxins and body waste. So this means a strained body which leads to more sweat. So what foods should you take?

  • a. Whole grains – great sources of B Vitamins and fiber.
  • b. Fresh Fruits – whatever your preference, they should form a crucial component in your daily regimen. Any will do from cherries, peaches, watermelons, apples, oranges, plums. The list is endless. You could try taking a fruit salad for breakfast or in between meals.
  • c. Vegetables – If you don’t have a liking for salads, veggies are excellent too as they are rich in B Vitamins.
  • d. Proteins – I’m talking Fish, eggs and moderate amounts of red meat. As for vegetarians, beans will do. If you can, avoid deep-fried foods like the plague.

17. Some cold water for the road – there’s no better cold drink than water especially on a hot day. Cold water is essential to reduce stress, regulate body temperature and keep those sweat glands under control.

18. Shave those underarms and groin areas – this is one of the most effective natural methods to overcoming excessive sweating. The reason is simple. Accumulation of sweat tends to occur around the hairs. As a result bacteria will soon start feeding on them with great vigor. In no time, the underarms will emit an unpleasant odor owing to the toxins discharged by the bacteria.

19. Avoid nylons and polyesters. Wear natural fibers – Cotton and wool are preferable in making the skin “breathe”. They provide ample space around the armpit area which allow for evaporation and free flow of air.

20. Wear loose fitting clothes – If your clothing is too tight, you are depriving your skin enough air to circulate around it. This increases sweating and triggers the sweat glands to produce more. During extreme hot conditions, it’s a good idea to keep your collar open or simply wear light clothes like a T-shirt and pants.

21. Carry an extra shirt – Be smart and keep a change of clothes if possible, particularly during hot days.

22. Wear undershirts – High quality undershirts made of cotton or just a T-shirt help absorb body sweat and make it evaporate fast.

23. Starch your shirts – Starching prevents the shirts from sticking to your body, which in turn keeps the body cool because the space inside allows for circulation of air.

24. Keep your head cool when exposed to the sun for long periods of time, a hat and shades will come in handy. Sunglasses help protect your eyes from extreme bright conditions and harmful ultraviolet rays. Opt for sunglasses with polarized lenses and reflective coating. A hat protects the head from heating and sunstroke.

25. Wear socks – socks help keep the feet cooler, by absorbing feet perspiration and faster evaporation.

26. Lose some weight – It’s a fact that 90% of people facing problems arising from excess sweating are overweight. Cutting down on that extra weight drastically increases your chances of dealing with excess body sweat.

27. Use the bathroom – The bathroom is a good place to make some last minute preparations. You can change clothes, apply deodorant or simply clean up excess sweat using cold water.

28. Don’t Exercise before important events – Exercise is good for the body and an important routine for healthy living. However, an intense workout increases your body temperature and that means more sweat. If you really must exercise, keep your stress levels low to reduce excess sweating. And when you’re done, go to tip number 7 :-)

29. Keep your cool in air-conditioned places – When you are traveling or just walking, make periodic stops at a few air-conditioned places to control your body temperature.

30. Arrive Early – Avoid getting into a rush to work, important appointments, meetings or even that dinner date! Make it a habit to always leave early. By arriving well in time your stress and anxiety levels are low. Moreover, your exercise level is reduced and the extra time will help you cool down. You could even use the free time to drink cold water.

31. No Deodorant, No Problem – Check into a pharmacy and look for a product with aluminium chloride as its active ingredient. This helps in reducing excess sweating by blocking the sweat pores.

32. Don’t Give up searching – sometimes, the causes of excessive sweating may be caused by hereditary factors, puberty or hormonal imbalances. As a result, the tips listed above may not help much. Fortunately, doctors are now able to assist patients suffering from Hyperhidrosis. With the advancement of science today, there are treatments for the disorder. These include surgeries, iontophpresis, Botox and even topical antiperspirants. An effective way to heal the problem is Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS). There are many more ways to help stop excessive sweating. Consult with your doctor for more assistance.

Sweating is a natural process, but it be dreadful if it goes out of hand. You can take comfort that you are not alone. Though various treatments are available, the natural methods of preventing excessive body sweating which are inexpensive and easier to implement.

At 32 tips and counting, and we are just warming up! No need to keep worrying. You can now gain your freedom and start living, enjoying life without dreading the warm days. Save yourself the embarrassment and banish all worries of wet underarms and sweaty palms quickly, easily and naturally. If you are sweating a storm, wondering how to start going out even on hot days without trying to keep your armpits cool or covered, it is possible to stop excessive body sweating in less than 2 weeks, without using expensive sweating treatments. I have had hyperhidrosis for almost 4 years now. I'm a sophomore in high school, & I can never wear colored shirts. In fact, I'm too embaressed to wear even white or black shirts without a fleece jacket over the top. I'm so scared to have boyfriends, go on dates, go to parties, do sports, anything like that. Having this issue is so much harder than it seems..I have tried dozens of deoderants including prescriptions. Also, I read the book, "Stop Sweating, Start Living" and that DID NOT work for me at all. I'm hoping all of these tips will work well for me. High school has not been a fun experience at all because of things I cannot do. Thank you for these ideas, I'll try them & maybe get back to you (:

Jackie  14 months ago

Responding to Alex above, im a sophomore also, and I have the same exact problem. I feel like I cant go anywhere or do anything and I also am scared to have boyfriends because my palms sweat and i'm afraid of what they'd think. I hardly ever wear colored shirts, usually go with something dark, and I always wear sweatshirts. So in the summer its difficult and i feel like i can't wear anything touching my armpits. plus i have to deal with blushing on my face and blotchy red on my chest, so I can't wear anything that low cut. I remember people commenting in church about my sweaty hands, when i was in first grade. I have no extra weight to loose and I feel like there is no hope. It seems to get worse every tear. I dont even like talking to my mom about it. i hope somthing helps.

I suffer from excessive sweating:s

I also sweat if I get nervous! Which is the worst.

I also go to a school with uniforms, which sucks cause if I have a sweat stain the only thing I can do is try and wash it out.

I hope this helps though!

Thankyou so much!

I had a very bad sweating problem all my life. I went from doctor to doctor to try and find cures. Two things have really helped me. The first I believe was called Drysol Lock. You rub it on your underarms at night and after a while you don't sweat anymore. It burns a little, but my under arms hardly sweat anymore and I used to sweat though my shirts minutes after putting them on. The second thing has changed my life. It is called Tenex. I started on 1mg, then 2mg, and now I am on 3 mg. I think 3mg is as high as you can go. My body over the years has built up a tolerance for it and it does not work as well as it first did, but it still works pretty well. In college I would avoid parties and all social situations because I would sweat even if it was the middle of winter. On Tenex the only time I sweat is when I am at the gym or working out. The stuff works great and I have had no side effects at all from it. Non-sweaters have no idea what it is like to go through life sweating all the time. It is embarrassing and really erases your social life. I hope this helps some of you...

Excessive sweating can be due to some kind of epilepsy, it is under the following category;

Focal (partial) seizures in the temporal lobes

Focal seizures starting in the temporal lobes are common.

The temporal lobes are responsible for many functions. Some examples of these functions are hearing, speech, memory, and emotions.

Here are some common symptoms of focal seizures in the temporal lobes

• Flushing, sweating, going very pale, having a churning feeling in your stomach

• Seeing things as smaller or bigger than they really are

• Seeing or hearing something that is not actually happening

• Smelling non-existent smells

• Tasting non-existent tastes

• Feeling frightened, panicky, sad or happy

• Feeling detached from what is going on around you

• Feeling sick

My sweating was real bad but after a started to take a medicine called Carbamazimpine my sweating is regulated.

i think if you have the above symptoms

or combination of the symptoms you should see a doctor and you will get cured for sure

i've had this problem for as long as I can remember, I sweat excessively on the face, armpits, arms and palms. But my face is the worst. Sometimes, none of my body parts is sweating and my face is already soaked with sweat. it sweats like crazy so when this happens I avoid talking to people because talking to people means looking in the face and that's so embarassing. I hate my life because of this. I'm a very much different person when I'm sweating and when I'm not. When im sweating, i avoid people even my closest friends and they all think im just being moody but when im not sweating, im like the happiest person and really jolly and not embarassed of talking to people. Because of sweating I cannot enjoy my life to the fullest. I'm only 17 and I'm still hoping to get cured. I want to be normal. :((((((

I'm 16 years old. I don't know for sure if I have hh, but whenever I wear tight clothing I constantly sweat under my armpits. Whenever I go shopping I can't buy clothes based on what's cute, I buy based on if I will sweat or not. I apply deodorant at least 3 times a day. I wear sweatshirts all the time. I sweat even in the coldest temperature. And I don't want to tell my parents because, honestly, it's downright embarrassing.

iHateSweat 3 months ago

I sweat no matter what, even when it is cold. My hands, armpits, and feet that is. The only time I feel clean is when I'm fresh out the shower, and several minutes later, I sweat and feel terrible again. I hate this and wish I could just stop sweating.

i started sweating just before having my first child, my hormones changed and did not go back to normal but have decreased a little over the 8 years.somethings i do to help is my a hairband in hot weather, as this will soak up the sweat and stop it running down your face, always where a singlet under tops specially in the hot weather as the first top will get sweaty but not the second top, carry a cool drink of water, tissues to wipe and maybe a small talc powder to help you pat dry and feel dry quickly and feel fresh

I have stopped drinking pasterized milk and I don't need deorderant, though the summer will prove that or not. Chocolate milk carton doesn't say pasterized and I recall hearing white is processed so that is the difference between white and chocolate milk. I also drink water but did so in the past with little help.

I've been dripping sweat my whole life. I'm 38 now. I like undershirts that wick sweat so I stay dry and my shirt stays dry. Keeps me from getting a chill, too. In summer, tank tops. My hands are the worst, drip constantly. Half gloves are great camophlage. On dates, instead of holding hands, link adms or arm around the waist. Sandles have to have a heel strap, or my feet slip right off them. Wool socks absorb sweat and still keep the feet warm. Shaking hands, well, everyone is human, I just make a point of wiping off my hands and apologize, explaining quickly my hands always sweat, without shame, and move on

Dear all, im a a 20 year old girl who has been surfering from excessive sweating since i was 13 years old. I went through everything described above. Sometimes i felt so humiliated and down that i wanted to take my life away. I have tried everything and nothing seem to work that i just gave up all together in the end. The only thing i continue using was applying sodium bicarbonat to my underarms. I said to myself that i will stop caring about myself and what people say and just live each day like i could not hear, see or smell. With time i forgot i had the condition and realised i was more happier. I was hanging out with friends and even huging my first boyfriend. Then one day after some strainous activity with my friends, i think out loud of how smelly i must be. Then my friend said, "no on the contrary you smell like baby powder" i thought he was kidding so i sniffed at my armpitts only not to smell at nothing foul, just plain sweat. Its been 3 years now since i last used any deodorants or prescription, and the sodium bicarbonat has just work wounders for me. Please just don't give up in the meanwhile prevent yourself from becoming paranoid. Live your life and know that in the dozens of remedies there is just one that is going to work out for you. And when you feel that no one will ever like you because you stink, think of me and no that you are not alone. When you sit next to me in the bus i won't be afraid to snuggle close to you.yours truly, Hope.

Okay, there are 2 blatent fallacies in the article. Number one, drinking hot drinks actually regulates your temperature better than drinking cool drinks. If your hot drink hot drinks if your cold drink cold drinks, it directs your body to self cool or self heat. Aluminum chloride is a dangerous chemical that should not be put on your body unless in small doses; using a lot of it has many harmful effects. Definitely do your research and do not believe most of what you read on the internet. This is an age of laziness and ignorance.

I am really crossing my fingers that these tipe work- I am only 12 and have had excessive sweating since I was 10. I have tried many different de-oderants and anti-persperants and NOTHING works. My mom even bought me a pharmacy perscribed clinical treatment anti-persperant, but it didnt help me at all. There are these two girls in my class who saw sweat stains that I had, and texted everyone in my class a text that said "Katie has discusting pit-stains, bet it is a disease or something. I wouldn't go near her, i wonder what else she ishiding." It is so embarassing, most days i dont even want to go to school. My problem results in me wearing baggy clothes, black, or whatever else that can hide the sweat. These tips are my last hope, after that i dont know what i will turn to.

Hi everyone

You just have to be patient and try and find what works best for you maybe some of the things I suggest might be the perfect thing or you have to keep searching.I am 39 and I have had this problem all my life have kept it at bay at times but continue to try more natural things. I have tried Drysol and if you use it regular every night it can be affective but I found that my armpits had a prickly itchy feeling and have hard time sleeping but it does reduce it also another brand I ordered online called maxim same thing a little less itchy but irritating the same, I have done Botox on my armpits and that was the best it disappeared for 8 months but slowly came back very costly my benefits at the time covered the Botox drug 800.00 but I paid the doctor an injection fee 200.00 I have found that now I try and use the strongest antiperspirant I can find over the counter. The best ones are the ones you put on the night before, also I am trying to drink more water sage tea or sage supplement to see if it helps This problem is not worth losing your life over as embarrassing as it can be at times try different methods you will find something that works For you and don't let it stop you from doing things over time you will be happier in your own skin as we all have a lot to offer the world. Good Luck and hopefully we get more people sharing there experience.

I'm twenty-one and started sweating when I was in the fifth grade or so. My pit problems have never dribbled to my waist, but I remember coming home from my first day of high school and blow drying my purple polo 'cause it was covered in sweat. Secret Clinical Strength is what I use, but it doesn't help entirely. For you girls out there, I'd advise seeking out shirts with full sleeves and not the "baby tee" style, 'cause that is what makes me sweat more. I'd say just keep a jacket handy or a nice shrug or something in case you start sweating to slip on. Remember, ladies, most of us only have to wait until menopause and hopefully this will go away! Only thirty some more years! T_T In all seriousness, though, I hope you gals find this useful because I too am coping with this issue. I used to wear TONS of white shirts during the summer, now I'm gonna switch to colors again and just live my life. I'm tired of this and I can't afford Botox. Good luck to you all and I hope you all just keep on trucking like I am and don't let it hold you back. The more confident you are, the less of a problem it will be. Remember: sweat is just liquid, and everyone sweats, don't let a liquid own you. :3

Hi, I am 17 years old. The excessive sweating started when I was in 8th grade. I only sweat under my arms. It's really embarrassing. I really only wear black shirts. But, it's got to the point where I have to wear sweat shirts. But,the thing is I don't really sweat as much when I am at home with my family. Just when I am out like at school, work, practice, shopping, anything like that. Even in the winter. I told my mom and she just said Me too. Which didn't help. I don't know who else to talk to. And I don't have the extra weight to lose. So, hopefully this works. Excessive sweating has taken over my life.

I've had this problem too. My hands get really sweaty and i avoid any hand holding or shaking. Last year i joined the softball team and i hated it because we had a before game ritual that involved holding hands and i barely made it through the season becausewe stopped doing it. Luckily i have a really understanding girlfriend, but telling her was the hardest and most heartbreaking thing because i was in tears when i did finally tell her. Im only 17 and i want to just make it stop. Hope this works :/

I have sweat running down my back - its horrible. I put paper towels under my clothing to absorb the wet. It wakes me up at night - I sleep on baby sheets which have a water proof back so now my bed doesn't get saturated. I often have to change all the sheets and my clothes. The sweating is worse if the Air is cold eg in supermarkets, cafes in drafts. I have to have the heating on which costs so much in Australia at present. If I wear cotton, the cotton absorbs the sweat and I freeze which makes me sweat even more. Is there any one else who sweats in the COLD all over their body? I don't sweat under the arms.

I have hyperhidrosis and I had the laser surgery at penn university in philadelphia pa, It was the best thiing I've ever done. I can work out on the hottest day for hours and not sweat comes out of my arm pits- it comes out in other places but it's not like your arm pits...any one with this problem call any hospital and tell the you want the surgery for hyperhidrosis and they will connect you with a doctor also my insurance covered the whole thing....good luck and get it done you wont be sorry!!!! Also all those little tricks do not work!!!

I'm 19 years old and I've had a a really bad sweating problem for a couple of years now. My feet, back, hands, face, and armpits all sweat a ton. I walk to class(i'm in college) which is usually 5 or 10 min away and my feet and my back and face are all sweating a ton which is really embarrassing so I always sit in the back of class or wherever there aren't a lot of people. I have found that iontophoresis has helped with my hands and that Hypercare or some other antiperspirant that contains Aluminum Chloride (15%+) has helped with my underarms (I apply it every night just to be sure) but still my face and back and feet sweat a lot. I've done blood work to see if it was something wrong with my thyroid or something else and apparently I'm alright. It's embarrassing and I don't like being around people because I sweat so much, but I guess it makes me feel better that other people have the same thing I do. I hope everyone finds their own remedy and I hope I find my own as well. Good Luck everyone :)

Suggesting that people use Aluminum Chloride is not safe to use under the arms or anywhere else. Aluminum can cause cancer of the breast and Alzheimers disease. Drinking cola or anything else out of an aluminum can is also a way of getting 1% aluminum each time you drink it. If that is not enough poisoning of aluminum on a persons body, putting it on the outside of the body will step up the amount they are taking in and in no time it will affect the mind!!!!!!!!!!!

I also read in "The Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements" that the Adrenal glands cause the medulla to secret adrenalin and other stress related hormones, when someone is under stress. It causes sweat production to increase to eliminate toxic compounds produced by the body and to lower body temperature. There are foods that cool the body like cucumbers, salads, grapefruit, etc. Too much stored glucose in the liver is dumped as the blood sugar is increased dramatically. So too much sugar is one of the problems, and in this day and age it does not surprise me that so many youths have this problems. So many of them are living on processed and unvitalized food and a lot of sugar.
